Beaches

Afteli Beach
A small cove in the south, with clear water great for snorkelling and a gently shelving entry, so it suits families with children. It's equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, and on the spot you'll find a shower, parking, a bar and a very good restaurant. Being the smallest in the area it fills up early, so arrive in good time.

Agiofili Beach
Stunning beach reachable by car to a paid parking, or by water-taxi from Vasiliki harbour. Sun-beds and umbrellas available in season, with variable prices. Small kiosk bar on the beach. Beautiful and compact — arrive early to enjoy it comfortably.

Agios Ioannis - Windmills Beach
Also called the windmills beach, it's one of the largest on Lefkada, near town on the Gyra spit. A small part is serviced, the rest is vast free beach, where you park for free right by the sea and find space even in August. It has spectacular seabeds with big stones and beautiful water, and a strong wind from early afternoon, ideal for wind sports. It serves up memorable sunsets and photos.

Agios Ioannis Lake (Meganisi)
A wild, natural beach on the south-west side of Meganisi, inside a small reserve, with three-tone water and very few people. It isn't organised and there are no shops, so bring water and an umbrella, but it's easy to reach by car. An almost unreal spot, perfect for those after peace.

Agios Nikitas Village & Beach
The prettiest seaside village on Lefkada, almost entirely pedestrian, with a lane sloping down to a small unequipped beach among shops, yogurt bars and tavernas. The water is shallow and calm, ideal for families, and the sunset here is something special. It's also a handy base for exploring the west coast and the departure point for the taxi boats to Milos. The only real downside is parking in high season: you leave the car outside the centre and walk in.

Ammoglossa Beach (Meganisi)
A small, lovely Meganisi beach with a pier to dock the boat (they help beginners too) and very clean, clear water. On the spot there's a cafeteria, toilets, and fairly priced sunbeds and umbrellas, plus some free sunbeds. Easy to reach by sea, perfect for a few hours stop while touring the island.

Ammoussa Beach
A small cove of clear water, good for snorkelling too, with fairly priced sunbeds and umbrellas, decent parking and a nice taverna to eat at. It's a stop worth making: handy, intimate and with everything you need to spend the day.

Amoglossa Beach
A strip of pale sand on the edge of the lagoon, mostly used by local bathers and close to town. It isn't organised, so come prepared with an umbrella and water, but access is flat and the lagoon setting is distinctive. A simple, quiet choice when you don't want to go far from Lefkada Town.

Avali Beach
Rustic and less crowded than its neighbours, it offers space and quiet, with a little beach bar by the water as its highlight. It's part of the cluster of coves (with Megali Petra and Kavalikefta) that share the same descending road, easy to combine. Perfect if you're after calm and sunsets without the crowds.

Blue Paradise
A beach on the Gyra spit, very close to Lefkada Town and reached by a flat road, so very convenient. Shallow water, a sandy and pebbly bottom and a relaxed feel, a short hop from the city.

Desimi Beach
A sheltered bay in the centre of the island, with calm, crystal water that stays quiet even when the west coast is windy. It's perfect for families and for SUP, and from here you can rent a small boat to explore the little caves and coves nearby. There are tavernas on the spot and along the road.

Egremni Beach
A wild stretch of more than two kilometres of white pebbles at the foot of a towering cliff, with some of the most spectacular water in the Mediterranean. After the 2015 landslide it was reachable only by sea for years; since 2021 you can walk down again, but expect a fifteen-minute walk from the parking plus a metal staircase of around four hundred steps. The descent is demanding and the climb back even more so, so bring sturdy shoes, water and time. To enjoy it without the effort, the boat from Vasiliki or Nidri is the way to go (it often stops at Porto Katsiki too).

Fanari Beach (Meganisi)
One of the prettiest beaches on Meganisi, organised with a fairly priced beach bar (sunbeds and umbrella for little), crystal water and paddle boards and kayaks on hand. Relaxed and friendly, great for a full day. Easy to reach by car or scooter, or by boat.

Gialos Beach
Not to be confused with Mikros Gialos on the east side. A huge beach reached by a recently paved road, with dazzling sea colours and enough room to always find your own spot. Access is easy, with no stairs, and the Medusa beach bar has sunbeds, umbrellas and services. A good choice when you want the beauty of the west coast without the effort of the steps.

Kathisma Beach
The most equipped beach on Lefkada: a long stretch with several beach clubs side by side at different prices, bars, restaurants and plenty to do, from paragliding to watersports. It works well for both young crowds and families, and access is easy with parking close by. It's also the ideal base for the sunset ritual, with the chance to shower and change before heading up to the cliff villages above Exanthia.

Kavalikefti Beach
Small and genuinely pretty, with the same clear water as the rest of this stretch. The road down is fairly steep, but once you're there you'll find parking and all the services. It pairs naturally with Megali Petra, just next door.

Krioneri
A tiny, unorganised beach near town, with cool water because it runs down from the mountain, but a genuinely magical feel. The tip is to go early in the morning to enjoy the solitude and the view, stay a couple of hours, then move on to nearby Agios Ioannis. The road in is flat.

Limonari Beach (Meganisi)
A lovely Meganisi beach with a big tamarisk tree for natural shade and a snack shack serving great sardines. The seabed has plenty of stones, so getting in and out of the water isn't the easiest, and parking can be tricky. Reached by car or scooter, or by boat, and loved for its calm, authentic feel.

Lygia Beach
A few kilometres from Lefkada Town, Lygia is a quietly organised pebble beach, with eucalyptus trees for shade and shallow, clear water that's almost always sheltered from the wind. It's a family favourite for that calm water and the many amenities close by, among the fish tavernas, cafes and shops of the little port. It also has a Seatrac system for sea access for people with reduced mobility.

Megali Petra Beach
One of the island's most striking sights, with huge boulders rising from the water that create unique scenery. There's parking, a bar and sunbeds, but the access road drops steeply, so drive carefully. It's right next to Kavalikefta, and the two pair up easily in a single day, with memorable sunsets.

Mikros Gialos
Not to be confused with Gialos on the west coast. It's a wide pebble beach on the south-east coast, calm and family-friendly, with restaurants and bars along the seafront road. The water is clear and the mood relaxed; it's also fitted with a Seatrac system for sea access for people with reduced mobility.

Mylos Beach
One of the most beautiful on the island, tucked between Agios Nikitas and Kathisma and reachable only on foot or by boat. A taxi boat runs from Agios Nikitas (every 15 to 20 minutes or so in high season, a few euros each way, a five-minute crossing), or you take the path that climbs behind the village and then drops down: around twenty demanding minutes, steep and partly stepped, best done in good shoes and not in the hottest hours. Services on the beach are minimal, so bring water and shade; the water deepens quickly and it's often windy. With wind or rough sea the taxi boats don't run, and the path on foot is the only way in.

Nikiana Beach
A small fishing village on the east coast, with a pretty little harbour and a quiet, shaded pebble beach. The water is calm and the seafront fish tavernas are the highlight, perfect for dinner after a swim. Easy and stress-free, a good pick for relaxed days near the main bases.

Pasa Beach
A small, quiet cove in the Pasa area, between Nikiana and Perigiali and a couple of kilometres from Nidri. You leave the car along the road and follow a short shaded path down. It isn't organised, but it's much loved in summer for the calm, the cool water and the view of the islets across the way (Madouri, Sparti, Skorpios). Ideal if you want a secluded spot without straying far from Nidri's amenities.

Pefkoulia Beach
Kilometres of beach, part free and part equipped, with incredible sea colours and easy access from the road. It's big enough that you never feel crowded, and at sunset it's at its best. An easy, versatile choice, good for families and for anyone who wants space.

Perigiali Beach
A thin pebble beach in the village of Perigiali, between Nikiana and Nidri, with calm, clear water and almost no waves. The deep, rocky seabed makes it great for snorkelling, and the vegetation and big rocks give natural shade through the day. It isn't organised, so bring what you need, but a supermarket and cafe are a few minutes away and access from the road is very easy.

Porto Katsiki
Lefkada's signature beach, and you see why at once. A crescent of pale pebbles below a sheer white cliff, with water that shifts from turquoise to deep blue. You park easily up top and walk down about a hundred steps. As the island's most famous beach it fills up fast, so arrive early and, if it gets too crowded by midday, consider moving on to Gialos. At the top there are two or three kiosks selling food and beach gear, but services on the sand are limited, so bring water and shade.

Vasiliki Beach
Set along a picturesque bay, with strong afternoon winds (after 3 pm) — less ideal for swimmers later in the day but world-class for windsurfing. Sun-beds, umbrellas and full services. Lively atmosphere with windsurfers in action.

Vathiavali Beach
A gorgeous, quiet beach on the mainland coast directly across from Nikiana, with strikingly clear turquoise water and good snorkelling. From Lefkada the easy way over is the little Vathiavali boat transfer that runs daily from the small beach by Nikiana harbour. It is lightly organised: a canteen for food and drinks, a few sunbeds and umbrellas, basic showers and toilets. Come earlier in peak season as it fills up. Pack water shoes and, for the fish, a bit of bread.
