Poros, overlooking Rouda Bay in the southeast of the island, is a small spot gathered around the lovely Mikros Gialos beach, of white pebbles and awarded the blue flag. It is an area loved by those after quiet without giving up the basics: there are tavernas, a few cafes, a mini market and accommodation for every budget, from the historic campsite to villas. The water is clear and calm, great for snorkelling, though it drops off quickly (mind the children). You arrive via a somewhat winding road and parking can be tight in high season.
