Nidri

Nidri

The east coast's liveliest resort: hub for boat trips, all on foot, no car needed.

Nidri is the island's most developed resort, on the east coast. It is the harbour for boat trips to Meganisi, Skorpios and the nearby islets, and the departure point for Kefalonia and Ithaca. The main street and waterfront have it all: bars, seafront tavernas, cafes, bakeries and shops, with enough going on that you never really need to leave. That makes it the ideal choice if you would rather not rent a car. In return, at the height of summer the evening strip can get very crowded and noisy, and the town beach is narrow and busy near the harbour (walk a few minutes north for more calm).

Why you'll like it

  • Everything on foot, no car needed
  • Harbour for island boat trips
  • Huge choice of restaurants, bars and shops
  • Lively, including at night

Keep in mind

  • Very crowded and noisy at night in high season
  • Mediocre, busy town beach
  • Untidy buildings and uneven pavements (awkward for limited mobility)

Getting around

The easiest area without a car: everything is walkable and trips and ferries leave from here. Pavements are uneven, not ideal for those with walking difficulties.
